Hmm, I don't know how you mke2fs'ed your drive, but for me, creating a new
file only takes 1k, but two inodes (not sure why). 4k cluster sizes are for
Windows wimps :)
I have 209k-inodes free on my drive, and only 53k inodes used. Mind you, I
don't archive _nearly_ that many messages.
Mutt, at least, does keep the non-incoming mailbox in non-maildir format. I
don't mind that, since there's only really a contention/locking problem
with the main inbox, not the "received" boxes.
