I do it here on my production machine. I would not do it in a professional
capacity, but the option is there if something is direly needed.

However, as stated above, the stability of Debian as a whole would
decrease. Stable, right now, means that all packages are known to work with
all other packages as well as the Debian developers can assertain. By
moving to a package-centric line of thinking instead of a distribution line
of thinking it is possible for one package to be changed and break quite a
few others. As I said above, because of that one major flaw I do not think
changing how we think is a good thing.
