Do note that users are not limited to individual packages as shown in dselect. 
When they install, they can choose one profile (such as "Network server" or 
"Typical home machine") or, if they have more time, a set of tasks (such as 
"HTML authoring" or "Sound" or "Perl programming"). Debian will then install 
all the packages which have been listed in the pre-defined lists. I maintain 
such lists for slink. That way, the users have less choice. (For instance, 
they get Apache if they need a Web server. And exim if they need a MTA.)

A challenge for the future versions is to be able to do the same *after* the 
initial installation, so you can add or remove tasks.
