FWIW, I agree. It would have been nice if the GIMP people had had the
largesse to sponsor a more open contest and then just assumed that the
people who didn't use the GIMP would only be hurting themselves :>
Frankly, I've designed some things in straight postscript (or written
scheme programs that generated postscript), and these came out nicely.
This isn't for everyone, but it demonstrates that you don't *have* to
use a GUI tool to generate nice graphics, with command-line
ray-tracers being an even better example.
