An ".so", no?  Some people have said that you can indeed build Perl
this way.  I was using the Debian Perl as a reference, and it does not
seem to be built like this.  I never said that Perl wasn't embeddable
in other apps.

Personally, I don't really care for Perl's C interface in any case,
nor the size of the core language, nor the 'messiness' of it - at
least for this kind of application.  Perl has its place, but I don't
think I would use it for this type of thing.  The object of having a
'standard' language for configuring apps would be to make it cleaner -
but using Perl would make it really easy to make things quite messy.

OTOH, if someone actually writes working code that does this using
perl, and gets enough people on board, than that is better than
vaporware with any other language.
