Just do automatic processing of maintainer applications.

You don't need a sponsor for that. Also mainainers should be involved
with many other maintainers and not just with their sponsor. Again
new-maintainer should be for that.

Whats that to do with sponsors? Also I think its a bad thing to force
a package on someone, some just wont do it. Some might just want to
help keep some arch up to i386 or fix bugs they notice.

I think its a good idea to have some maintainer to speak to personally
and i think that in cases where such a thing is present and the
application is signed by that maintainer there could be a faster or
automatik processing of that application. The maintainer could then be
called sponsor if you wish.
