Debian Tutorial - section 3.1



In section 3.1 of the Debian Tutorial it says that the BIOS is
responsible for printing the "Non-system disk or disk error" message.
Actually the BIOS just executes whatever it finds in the boot sector.
For formatted disks without an operating system, there is code to
display the "Non-system disk or disk error" message. Unformatted
floppies just hang the computer [1], and I remember Fastback Plus
v2.something would not have working code in the boot sector of its
backups.

[1] Some BIOSes may properly recover if they encounter a screwed up boot
sector, but that is speculation.
