I had Nimbus already provided by
                                                                                
  > locate n019024l.pfb | xargs dpkg -S
  libeel-data: /usr/share/eel/fonts/urw/n019024l.pfb
  gsfonts: /usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/n019024l.pfb
                                                                                
When I installed gsfonts-x11 ...

  gsfonts-x11: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/n019024l.pfb

... 'Nimbus Sans L' became horizontally (and abnormally) narrower. This ocurred
in all my GNOME2 apps. When I removed gsfonts-x11, 'Nimbus Sans L' reverted to
its normal state.
