IMVHO installing in /usr/lib is the best way to go. I need help on ho to fix this.

Do you want to install application in /usr/lib/otb ?.  using otbcli_*.bat file you can move the application to anywhere and adjust ITK_AUTOLOAD_PATH. see [1]
