strip does, in fact, have a bug (see binutils in the BTS). I've been
waiting for a new version to come from upstream since it's quite complex
to diagnose and fix. I am now packaging up a new version of binutils for
experimental. If you'd like to try it, look for binutils-2.9.5.0.10 to
hit experimental (should be a few days...I'm resolving some packaging
problems while upgrading to a new standards version now) and give it a
shot.
