FYI, I've closed two bugs against libc6.1 (#47584, #47784) since the 2.1.3
versions have fixed the problems.

What's the situation with this? What changes were made that may break
Alpha and what is it going to break? We were experiencing some of the
same problems, but I skirted them every time (figured it was my
system...nobody else seemed to tell me they were having the same
problems).
