Yes, there is 19990505 in the same directory, and you should definitely take
this. 19990104 has many problems.

MUCH to big. It did really not complain? Note that we talk about the
partition, not about the hard disk as a whole. Are you sure you made a 6GB
ext2fs partition for the Hurd? The partition should be ~ 1 GB max.

You are missing things like /etc/protocol etc. Please install the net/inetutils
package, but first update your system to current glibc etc.

Did you try ^C? It is only in a tight loop. Maybe it hung, but this problem
has been long fixed. Install a recent ae package, and the fake vi is gone.

The clients run. twm and xterm are available on alha.gnu.org. But they only
work on a remote display, because no X server runs yet.

ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-hurd-i386 has it all.
Do NOT install the base/makefiles or base/login package. Do not install
liblockfile. All other should be safe.
There is egcs 2.91.66, gdb 4.18, vim and many more.

important issues come up, a request for help is sometimes send. Otherwise
just pick up a task (www.debian.org/ports/hurd/hurd-task)

Native development preferred. Cross compilation is possible but not trivial
to set up.
