Okay ! I'll answer those I can:

The mach console is not very well developed yet. If you telnet to your
Hurd machine in e.g. xterm you can see colours etc, but not on the
console.

Who knows? This doesn't seem to be a priority as most people run some
other OS besides the Hurd that they can install from.

No.

I have the same problem.

Yes, but setting up a cross-compilation environment is not worth the
trouble, as Marcus told me earlier and yet I decided to discover it from
experience :) On the other hand, recompiling GNUMach under the Hurd is
pretty easy.
