dpkg-problem!

Hello!

I installed Gnu/HURD today on my linux-computer giving it an own
partiton of 400 MB. I also installed GRUB on a floppy-disk. I have no
problems booting HURD with the GRUB-Disk. I added a new user and all
works correctly.

But when I try do update HURD with dpkg with the following command

dpkg -i hurd_19991209.deb

I got an error:

dpkg-deb: failed to create pipe: (ipc/mig) bad request message ID
dpkg: error processing hurd 19991209.deb (--install)
...

The same happens when I try to install nvi_1.79-13.deb

I think the pipe-device is missing or something. I'm a newbie on
HURD. I'm quite familiar with linux, but I'm no genius with
linux. Could anybody help me and tell me what to do to get dpkg work?

Another question is: is there any possibility to install GRUB on HD?
There is a menu-item on the GRUB-Disk, but I do not want to try it,
because I need linux. When I install GRUB on HD, can I boot linux with
it? What must I do to boot linux? Do I need lilo any longer?

O.K., that are only some simple questions, but perhaps you can answer
me and help me avoid a lot of trouble.

I like HURD pretty much and I hope I will even like it more when I can
run some software? By the way, how can I shutdown the hurd, theres no
shutdown-command. I only found reboot, but it is no clean way to
reboot and turn of the PC in the right moment;-))

Thnaks in advance,
Michael Thaler
