Bug#797601: linux-base: overlayfs rename to overlay causes issues with other packages
Package: linux-base
Version: 4.0
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
The kernel has renamed overlayfs to overlay:
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=ef94b1864d1ed5be54376404bb23d22ed0481feb
However, it expected distributions to keep the old name around, because userspace software might rely on it.
And it definitely does. lxc, at version 1.0.7 in debian/unstable, relies on overlayfs for its lxc-clone facilities. At lxc 1.1.1, it has added support for the name "overlay".
It means that right now, lxc-clone cannot be used on debian, since both packages don't support each other.
Regards,
Florian Margaine
