Bug#744166: nouveau: GPU lockup after "read fault at 0x0000039000 [PAGE_NOT_PRESENT]"

Package: src:linux
Version: 4.3.3-2
Followup-For: Bug #744166

I see something like this regularly too. Here is the latest
occurrence:

[ 1550.657540] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: read fault at 0000dd0000 engine 15 [PCE0] client 01 [PCOPY0] reason 02 [PAGE_NOT_PRESENT] on channel 0 [001fe74000 DRM]
[ 1550.657547] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: ce0 engine fault on channel 0, recovering...
[ 1580.616767] [TTM] Buffer eviction failed

Once this happens, the mouse cursor moves, but the desktop is
otherwise unresponsive. I can't use ctrl-alt-Fn to get to a text
console. All I can so is ssh in from another machine and reboot.

It seems like it always occurs when I'm interacting with a web page in
either firefox or chromium, but that might just be because that's most
of the time.
