Cannot open device /dev/input/mice

Hey Guys... I install knoppix 5.0 DVD version and with the linux-kernel for
default don't have any problems with the mouse in my laptop 

But install the kernel-image  2.6.16-1-k7 and the mouse doesn't work :(
I check the setting with X server and they show me that problem

Cannot open device /dev/input/mice

then check de entry for the mouse in /dev/input/mice and not exist.

Someone now what can I do for fix that.
