(answering the case of movies)
local experiments show that the opendvd.org stuff and sound decoding stuff
can both be beat on enough to get something usable, but sound and video are
not in sync... a natural result of using different toys to decode the same
input.
As the 'audience rights' cases move onward we'll see if we can get better.
(other things in DVD format)
make sure you have a kernel with UDF filesystem support and it works great.
