Depends on the laptop.  Since APM is controlled pretty much entirely
by the bios (with minor hooks for the os) you'll need some way to
communicate with it.  I think there may be some tools for Toshiba or
IBM laptops, but I don't know for sure.  I don't know a thing about Acers.

Your easiest solution would just be "Don't do that."
