Subject: Debian "Sarge" on DELL precision M50 laptop
To: linux-precision@dell.com

I have a successful installation of Debian 3.1 rev0a "Sarge" on a DELL precision M50 laptop.  This system has an nvidia Quadro4 700GoGL video card.  To install the linux drivers for this card, see this really handy web page:

http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/Debian-nVidia/installation.html

by Andrew E. Schulman, thanks Andrew!

To setup the /etc/X11/XF86config-4 file, I've used the config below without the nvidia driver (in case you can't get the driver installed with your kernel).  If you get the nvidia driver installed, then comment out the "GLcore" and "dri" modules and switch to the "Nvidia card" setup in the 'Section "Screen"'.  There are many options for configuring the card that are not listed here (I saw a good list on the nvidia linux mail archives somewhere).

I would really appreciate some technical specifications on the LCD display screen.  I found some values on the net related to some DELL LCD screen, but I can't be sure it is the screen on the DELL precision M50 laptop.  I don't see any technical specifications on the DELL website and I can't get them off the drivers CD that came with the system (all of those driver files are designed for windoze).  I would like to define the correct specifications for the monitor section:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Dell Flat Panel WXUGA"
    HorizSync 31.5-110.0
    VertRefresh 30.0-90.0
    DisplaySize 330 210
    Modeline "1600x1200" 162 1600 1984 2176 2480 1200 1201 1204 1250 +hsync +vsync
    Option "DPMS"
EndSection

Thanks, Darren
