Yes, that is what I meant with *mutually exclusive* (I see I butchered
the original sentence, which may have resulted in your confusion).
Either debian/compat containing COMPAT XOR a B-D on debhelper-compat (=
COMPAT).

That you are free to pick either method without (deprecation) warnings
or errors as long as you use *exactly one* of them in a given package.
