Bug#923070: eom: can't handle wrong file extensions

I do expirience the same issue. With JPEG file with .png extension, the
eom displays an error about inability to open a file. Eom should ignore
the file extension, or only use it as a hint if at all. GIMP opens this
file without any issue. If I change the extension to anything else like
".bzium", eom properly detects it is jpeg file, and displays it without
any issue.

What is even more interesting is that caja has no issues showing thumbnails
of JPEG images, even if they have .png extension, or any other extension.
Caja basically doesn't care much about file extensions.

Similarly eom built in functionality of showing other images in the same
directory 'View -> Image Collection (F9)' also works fine with .png or
any other extension, and shows image thumbnails, without any issue.
