Some more info on resolution is in

Section "Obtaining the Best Display Quality"
There is some info on the licensing stuff in this document http://hsc.myvnc.com/last/good/upload/faq/pdf/CS3000_Dental_Imaging_IG.pdf
Which seems to indicate a) there is a license file b) the product can be activated over the phone as well. It seems the registration code is generated from a customer id and sensor id. This makes me wonder how the computer hardware comes into play here.
This document also talks about the "RVG driver" which seems to install the previously mentioned TWAIN driver.
Interesting bit here
It shows the indicates that the installer is writing stuff to the Windows registry. This reminds me of the day when it was common to go to the registry and search for suspicous entries that would deal with the licensing.
Used units seem to be sold on ebay
and the seller seems to be in the position to provide the license code. I asked the seller if the sensor can be used on different computers in the office by transferring the license.
