Bug#408265: Gnome font rendering

Hi,

I stumbled upon an incarnation of this bug that seems to be related to
font rendering in Gnome.

Gnome's font rendering changed in a recent update which led to
ridiculously large fonts on my 19" lcd. At the same time the
configuration dialogue for the font settings has moved. Being unable to
find it at first, I manually fiddled with the dpi settings in gconf
(key: /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi) which seemed to help:
(most) fonts were back to normal, BUT openoffice refused to start with
the aforementioned error.

Deleting the gconf key and setting the dpi using the dialogue in the
gnome control center (now hidden under System->Preferences->Appearance)
fixed both the font rendering and the openoffice problem.

I know this is probably not a general solution but it might be helpful
for some who experience this problem and first look at the debian bts
(as I did).

Kind regards,

David
