Yes, I concur. Not that this is the solution to your current problem,
but you might be interested in the qualification procedure of the djbdns
client library (which is in the public domain, and available in Debian
main), see http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/qualify.html
I switched from libresolv to libdjbdns in all of my software projects
that do query the DNS.
