Can't get Xpmac to run under Debian

   I downloaded the Rage128 accelerated Xpmac.rage128.usd.rev5 X server,
and referred to in in the first line of /etc/X11/Xserver. However when
it starts, after initializing correctly, recognizing my card and
starting acceleration, I get the error:

PEXExtensionInit: Couldn't open default PEX font file Roman-M

failed to set default font path, "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Misc",
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo", "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1",
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi", "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"

Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed'

These paths are accurate, i.e. this is were the fonts actually are,
so what is the problem exactly and how can I fix it? I never had that problem
under LinuxPPC or Mklinux. Thanks,
