Re: DAM and NEW queues processing

Chris Lamb benefited from a lot of factors. He waiting a long time
before applying, so he couldn't have been more ready to be a DD. He was
assigned an AM after only a month of waiting, his AM was very active
at the time and prioritized his NM process quite high, so he
could do all the AM part in 1.5 month. So it only took him 2.5 month to
go from applying to being AM-approved.

The one month waiting for AM assignment was in fact a DD registering as advocate on the web site but not bothering to type and sign the advocation mail until Ana made an effort to "hijack" the advocate position. This can be easily seen by the fact that an unusually large timespan lies between applying and the advocate check being passed. If his case proves anything about the process other than that it can be quick for the right people than it is that the very same people screwing up package maintenance today will harm Debian with their involvement in the NM process. The FD wait time can probably largly be attributed to the fact that FD personnel changed, including one appointee going MIA, and FD consisting mostly of one new member until Christoph FD-processed some of the backlog.

The main difference between Chris and Sandro and many of the less successful candidates is commitment and skill. I would not think that the above qualifies as Chris being exceptionally lucky with respect to how the process works out in each case.

Kind regards
