I just fired up an Epson Perfection 1650 on an Ubuntu 13.04 system, with following versions: $ dpkg-query -W xsane libsane libsane:amd64 1.0.23-0ubuntu1 libsane:i386 1.0.23-0ubuntu1 xsane 0.998-3ubuntu3 Xsane detected the scanner as a GT-8200. Clicking 'Scan' yielded a short scan run and the message '[epson2] e2_ext_read: cancel request received' on stderr. I did SANE_DEBUG_EPSON2=128 xsane > log.txt 2>&1 tar -czvf log.tgz log.txt See attached file. I just checked, and building the backends with apt-get source libsane cd sane-backends-1.0.23 sudo mk-build-deps -i debuild -b -uc -us -j4 seems to succeed, so I'm set up to try patches. I'd be happy to do quick iterations of testing and/or try patches if anyone has ideas. - Dan
