Package: tpb Version: 0.6.3-2 On-screen display does not work on my system when the xfonts-base package is not installed. I'm running Debian unstable, with the en_US locale, and with the suggested xfonts-base-transcoded package installed. The error message given when I run tpb from a shell is Unable to initialize xosd. Running without onsceen display. I have several fonts packages installed, including the suggested xfonts-base-transcoded package, but not xfonts-base. I get this message when the OSDFONT variable is not set in the /etc/tpbrc file, or when I set it to a font. I ran strace on tpb, and saw this message: writev(6, [{"1\0\21\0\1\0009\0", 8}, {"-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--*-*-*-*-c-*-ISO8859-1", 57}, {"\0\0\0", 3}], 3) = 68 That font is installed by xfonts-base, I believe. I'm not a font wizard, or a locale wizard, so I may be wrong on some of the details here. All I know is that my problem goes away if I install xfonts-base - maybe this should also be a "suggested" package for tpb? Better yet, tpb should deal with the absence of xfonts-base... - David
