Personally, in this case I would say you need to change two things:
1) edit the remote repository configuration so HEAD points to the debian
branch
2) change Vcs-Git of the version in experimental by adding '-b debian-experimental'

Nope, here I really mean "default branch", i.e. the branch HEAD points
to, which in your current case just so happens to be the one called
'master' (but it should be pointing to 'debian', really).
'master' is the default name of the default branch, but many
repositories don't have a branch named like that (but still have a
default branch, i.e. HEAD points elsewhere).
