nvidia-graphics-drivers should be forced or removed
Hi,
nvidia-graphics-drivers has been unusable in Etch since X.Org 6.9
transitionned to Etch, as reported in #352581. My reply to myself in
this report can be ignored as nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy
transitionned to Etch since then. As xserver-xorg doesn't conflict with
sid's nvidia-graphics-drivers, the issue would be fixed by updating
nvidia-graphics-drivers in testing. However britney won't do this due to
the RC bugs filed against it. The new situation is that Etch has both
nvidia-graphics-drivers and nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy providing the
same upstream version, and one of them is unusable. There are 2-3 RC
bugs against those, depending on whether Randall was right to downgrade
#352581. These bugs are filed against nvidia-graphics-drivers but should
apply as much to nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy.
So, the possibilities for avoiding nvidia-graphics-drivers to be
unusable in Etch are to force 8178 or to remove it due to its RC bugs.
But as the RC bugs also apply to nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy, I think
the only coherent things to do would be to force nvidia-graphics-drivers
or remove the whole
nvidia-graphics-drivers/nvidia-graphics-drivers-legacy/nvidia-graphics-modules-i386/nvidia-modules-i386/nvidia-graphics-legacy-modules-i386.
