apt-get problems

I am trying to do an apt-get upgrade and it keeps abending with

Reading Package Lists... Error!
E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room
E: Error occured while processing libgii0 (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList

What is wrong??

It appears I have available disk space and I have increased my
storage to 64 meg. Does it need still more???
