I agree. The recent versions are:

teTeX-src-beta-20000807.tar.gz
teTeX-texmf-beta-20000804.tar.gz
teTeX-texmfsrc-beta-20000804.tar.gz

The debian version should be something like -1.0.beta.20000807 !?
