Bug#76305: Babel does not load Finnish hyphenation patterns

ashar> When running LaTeX on a Finnish document, the package
ashar> babel does not load the correct hyphenation patterns.
ashar> I have run 'texconfig hyphen latex' and removed the
ashar> comment from the line beginning with 'finnish'. Below
ashar> is a file that reproduces this problem (including an
ashar> incorrect hyphenation) and the logfile which is
ashar> produced when latex is run on it.

I'm not able to reproduce this problem. I added the Finnish
hyphenation patterns by going through texconfig's menus, then
switched it back by using the command `texconfig hyphen latex',
then back again with the same command (in case there was something
happening differently with the menu commands and the command-line
commands).

I did, however, get the same kinds of error messages in the log
file when I TeXed your sample file *without* Finnish language
support in the formats. This may seem like a stupid question, but
are you sure you actually saved /etc/texmf/language.dat after
uncommenting the line for Finnish?

Another possibility is that your TeX paths are confused in such a
way that an old file is being included when your formats are
rebuilt -- especially if you've upgraded your machine from an
older teTeX installation. Run the following commands, and if you
don't get the same results, check to see if root has any TEX*
environment variables, clear them, and then try rebuilding your
formats again.

   debian% kpsewhich hyphen.cfg
   /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/babel/hyphen.cfg
   debian% kpsewhich latex.fmt
   /usr/share/texmf/web2c/latex.fmt

Finally, it may be that you're experiencing an interaction between
teTeX and some other TeX-related packages you have installed
(you're apparently getting Czech and Slovak support from somewhere
other than Babel). Try removing those packages, rebuilding your
formats, and TeXing your sample file again.

If none of these suggestions fix your problem, please send more
information about what TeX-related packages you have installed.
(Specifically, take a look at task-tex, and give us a `dpkg -l'
listing for all the packages listed as dependencies or
suggestions.)
