Package: tetex-extra
Version: 3.0-13
Severity: normal
\textasciitilde is too high in cmtt, making URLs look strange with
the url package when using T1 encoding. The tilde should be lowered
for consistency with other fonts.
(I originally reported the problem to Donald Arseneau, suggesting
to lower the tilde as he did for OT1, but he didn't want to "have
url.sty redesigning every font that it comes across".)
-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!
If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Just after my bug report, I received a mail from Boguslaw Jackowski
saying:
"Thanks for pointing this out. The lowering of an ASCII (text) tilde was
in our todos once upon time, but it somehow escaped to be accomplished.
This time we'll do our best not to overlook the issue ;-)"
Anyway, with my testcase, if I add
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{lmodern}
to use lmodern, the position of the tilde is fixed, meaning that the
lmodern bug has been fixed.
