texlive needs libpng 1.6, which is only in experimental.
Furthermore, and that is the reason for all the other included
libs (freetype2, cairo, gd), mixing libpng14 and libpng16 does
not work.
Lasst but not least, I don't see any activity from libpng
maintainers to get libpng16 into unstable, and try to rebuild
freetype2, cairo, gd etc.

I have offered my help several times, have rebuild lots of packages
with 1.6 to see if it works, but to no avail ... :-(

As a consequence I had to - unfortunately - include all the
libs again (they haven't been in there in the last years!)
