AutoPPP doesn't work in WinNT (sort of)

Hi,

this is very strange... I can connect to my Debian box using PPP from
Windows 95 using the AutoPPP feature of mgetty, but I can not connect
from Windows NT (well, sort of.)

What happens is that in the "Server Type:TCP/IP Properties" dialog of the
dial-up networking connection, the user can specify if the server will
assign the IP address and the DNS server addresses, or it will be assigned
manually.

I have found that Windows 95 can connect to the Debian box when BOTH
the IP address and the DNS addresses are assigned by the server. However,
with Windows NT Workstation 4.0 (with Service Pack 2), if the DNS address
is assigned by the server, the connection isn't succesful (Windows NT
disconnects from the server after the succesful authentication and after
getting a timeout - it sits there looking for something that never
arrives.)

In order to have a succesful connection with Windows NT the DNS has to be
assigned manually (the IP address can be assigned by the server).

Does any one know/have a reason for this behavior?

Thanks,

E.-
