What I did was: 

1. mv /usr/include /usr/include.bak
2. ln -s /usr/src/linux/include /usr/include 
(assuming that your kernel 2.2.5 source is on /usr/src/linux.)
3. install vmware
4. rm /usr/include   
5. mv /usr/include.bak /usr/include

So far... it works fine for me.
