man problems

I just installed gettyps, and I'm having trouble with the associated man
pages. I've never had to do anything special before to see man pages
after installation. What follows is system information and some shell
dialog (all commands executed as root, "i>" is what I typed in and "o>"
is the system response.

Package: gettyps
Version: 2.0.7j-7

Package: man-db
Version: 2.3.10-68

i> dpkg --listfiles gettyps | grep man
o> /usr/man
o> /usr/man/man5
o> /usr/man/man5/gettydefs.5.gz
o> /usr/man/man8
o> /usr/man/man8/uugettyps.8.gz
o> /usr/man/man8/gettyps.8.gz

i> ls -l /usr/man/man8/gettyps*
o> -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7654 Feb 26 1998 /usr/man/man8/gettyps.8.gz

i> man gettyps
o> No manual entry for gettyps

i> mandb
o> Processing manual pages under /usr/man...
o> Checking for stray cats under /usr/man...
o> Checking for stray cats under /var/catman...
o> Processing manual pages under /usr/local/man...
o> Checking for stray cats under /usr/local/man...
o> Checking for stray cats under /var/catman/local...
o> Processing manual pages under /usr/X11R6/man...
o> Checking for stray cats under /usr/X11R6/man...
o> Checking for stray cats under /var/catman/X11R6...
o> 0 man subdirectories contained newer manual pages.
o> 0 manual pages and 0 stray cats were added.

i> man gettyps
o> No manual entry for gettyps

I can see the man page sitting there, why can't man?
