dpkg -s libc6 will give you the version of glibc=libc6 on your system.
Debian 2.1 is based on glibc2.0. The unstable version of Debian(2.2)
is based on glibc2.1.

This is already packaged for Debian. Look on your local Debian mirror
in the sound section.
