Managing audio files

I'm moving all my audio files from Windows to Debian.

I'm looking for suggestions on:

1) Player? I'm now using xmms which seems fine, but will listen to
suggestions on why something else might be better

2) Trippy images and such. My favorite winamp plugin is Giess.

3) Program to manage the collection.

4) A way to get my JR20/JR21A (X10) remote control to work under linux ;)

5) Best mixer to use -- I'm currently using kmix, although the master
volume control doesn't seem to work when playing audio CDs. (I'm still not
decided on a WM, although I keep going back to KDE.)

5) Any other *must have* items for playing audio.

I still don't fully understand the OSS/ALSA setup, and what I'm actually
using (I assume I'm using OSS provided by xmms??).

Thanks.
