The federal aid appropriated for Katrina relief within the first two weeks was *five times* the *entire* federal aid expenditure for Hurricane Andrew: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/07/AR2005090702034.html That was just in two weeks. Some other reports have placed the current cost at $122 BILLION *and rising* after 18 months. Please understand, the fiasco after Katrina was not the fault of the federal government. It is squarely the fault of Blanco and Nagin. How in the world Nagin managed to get reelected is still beyond me. Were the people of New Orleans so stupid that they believed his rhetoric that the federal government wasn't doing its job when in fact it was *his* resistance to the federal government that slowed everything down. Besides, lots of the aid and rescue effort that was finally delivered came from the US military. I guess we shouldn't have let them do their jobs either and then blame the resulting death and mayhem on the governmnet as well? > Boy Scouts have historically done better with fewer resources in worse > conditions than Katrina. > Agreed. I went to Homestead with my scout troop after Andrew. We did what we could. BTW, much of the aid was delivered by the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division. Regards, -Roberto -- Roberto C.
