Yeah, getting some experience with Debian's packaging is probably
easier inside an active team than with a QA maintained, orphaned
package.

I'm glad it was helpful.
For others interested in wicd's Debian packaging: I'd still join a
wicd packaging team for Debian if someone else -- especially someone
more python-savvy -- takes the lead.
