Then it's a bug in xserver-xfree86, not xlibmesa3-gl.

Sounds like a problem related to fonts rather than with the driver
(unless disabling acceleration works around the problem?). Try using
different fonts and/or font renderer modules, in particular, the
freetype font renderer is known to cause problems with some fonts.

This is a harmless side effect of the DRI being disabled.
