Yeah it's not ideal, but I don't know of a better succinct term in
English for that 'enter a function' style calculator.  I took it from
galculator which can have a UI of 'basic mode', 'scientific mode', or
'paper mode'. The first two simulate a physical caclulator with
buttons, the 3rd is an entry-box like the XFCE-calculator plugin.

But I agree it's not a widely-understood term. Your description below is good.
