Don't panic!

Have you tried to run dselect? Its an alternative to aptitude.
It should be installed on your machine, since it is hardwired
together with dpkg, which is the basic tool for installing
and removing packages.

If dselect doesn't work either, than you can still download
packages manually via ftp or http, and install them using
dpkg.
