arches question

this probably a stupid question, seeing as i know nothing about the
hardware involved, but i'm trying to get a ppc-notebook-using friend
to install debian. does the m68k architecture work at all on powerpcs?
(i'm guessing not since there's a powerpc arch in sid). if not, does
anyone know if the powerpc arch is sufficiently nonbroken to have even
a chance at a successful notebook install?
