Oops, I forgot to mention that you do have to do something manually for
the Alpha: edit the top-level Makefile, look to the line "ARCH=" and
change it to say "alpha".  The 2.1.x makefile autodetects this with
uname -m.


Also make sure that the SMP= line is _commented_out_. Putting "SMP=0"
doesn't work.
