About the last straw for me earlier yesteray was when I tried to install
kernel-source-2.2.14 from potato onto a slink machine so I could build a
kernel image deb for the potato machine, but that would have required
fileutils (>= 4.0) and slink only has 3.16. I decide to override the
dependency manually, and this worked fine. However, even building from
source is becoming impractical on slink now, as you say.
