And that's one of the main problems for Debian gaining any ground in
the Linux distributions mosaic. Disregarding all shortcomings of
Redhat there is one big plus the have and which i sincerely miss with
Debian: there is at least some continuity in the availability of
Redhat CD's making Redhat accessible in a far more reliable way than
Debian ever was. Presence on the CD-ROM market is a necessity for
becoming and staying visible. Guess why such a purely practical
person like Linus Torvalds himself runs Redhat instead of Debian?
The main distribution method for Linux distributions worldwide still
is (and probably will be for quite some time more) via CD-ROM. This
is for the majority of Linux users everywhere on the globe the only
economical way to get hold of large chunks of data. Even i being a
package maintainer for Debian still have no complete unstable system
running because i just can't and won't upgrade my system via a 33.6
modem connection. Here in Germany the use of a modem connection for
downloading large chunks of data is a secure method of ruining oneself
beyond hope. I'm eagerly waiting to purchase a more worthwhile Debian
release from any CD vendor, but unfortunately the project can't and
doesn't deliver.
